Apple has not announced the iPhone 18 Pro, but the leaks have reached the point where a recognizable phone is beginning to emerge.

The latest reports describe a familiar design with important changes inside. A smaller Dynamic Island, a new A20 Pro chip, camera improvements and a larger battery are all being discussed. The iPhone 18 Pro Max may also become thicker and heavier.

I would not treat every leaked measurement as settled. Apple can test several versions before choosing the model that reaches stores. The repeated details are more interesting. Several reports now point in the same direction.

  • September 2026 launch for the Pro and Pro Max
  • 6.3-inch and 6.9-inch displays
  • Smaller Dynamic Island
  • No under-display Face ID yet
  • A20 Pro chip produced on a 2-nanometer process
  • Apple C2 cellular modem
  • Possible variable-aperture main camera
  • Larger battery in the Pro Max
  • Approximately 240-gram Pro Max weight
  • Possible dark red finish
  • Standard iPhone 18 delayed until spring 2027

When Could Apple Release the iPhone 18 Pro?

Apple is expected to introduce the iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max in September 2026. Preorders would probably open later that week. Deliveries could begin about seven days after the announcement.

The standard iPhone 18 may not appear at the same event.

Reports claim that Apple plans to split the iPhone launch into two parts. The Pro models and the company’s first foldable iPhone would arrive in fall 2026. The regular iPhone 18, iPhone 18e and a second-generation iPhone Air would follow in spring 2027.

Such a schedule would give Apple more room to promote its most expensive devices. It would also prevent the regular iPhone from competing for attention with the foldable model.

Apple used a more traditional release plan for the iPhone 17 family. A divided launch would therefore represent a major change in the company’s sales calendar.

Rumored Model Expected Release Period
iPhone 18 Pro September 2026
iPhone 18 Pro Max September 2026
Foldable iPhone September 2026
Standard iPhone 18 Spring 2027
iPhone 18e Spring 2027
Second-generation iPhone Air Spring 2027

I checked out a lot of videos and reports, but most of them are just rumours, like this one.

The Pro Max May Become Heavier

A recent leak places the iPhone 18 Pro Max at approximately 240 grams and 9 millimeters thick.

For comparison, the iPhone 17 Pro Max reportedly weighs 233 grams and measures 8.8 millimeters. The difference looks small on paper. Seven extra grams can still be felt in a phone that is already large.

The leaked measurements have not been confirmed by Apple. They fit earlier reports claiming that the Pro Max would gain a larger battery and require more space for upgraded camera hardware.

Creative Bloq’s report on the latest dimensions presents the coming Pro Max as a bigger and heavier device. The trade may be simple. Buyers would carry more weight in exchange for longer battery life.

I suspect the extra thickness will divide people. Some buyers want the thinnest possible phone. Others would gladly accept another fraction of a millimeter if it means reaching bedtime without searching for a charger.

Apple Is Not Expected to Change the Screen Sizes

The screen size will probably be the same as iPhone 17 Pro

Current reports place the iPhone 18 Pro at 6.3 inches and the iPhone 18 Pro Max at 6.9 inches.

Apple appears ready to keep the same general dimensions used by the previous Pro generation. The front of the phone may still look different because the Dynamic Island is expected to become smaller.

Earlier reports claimed that Apple would place Face ID sensors under the display. That would leave only a small camera opening visible on the screen.

More recent information has cooled those expectations. Under-display Face ID may not be ready for mass production. Apple could instead use a smaller version of the existing Dynamic Island.

A completely uninterrupted display now looks less likely for 2026. Buyers may get a cleaner front panel, but not the dramatic all-screen design suggested by early leaks.

The A20 Pro Chip Could Be the Real Upgrade

The iPhone 18 Pro is expected to use Apple’s A20 Pro chip. Reports claim that it will be manufactured using a 2-nanometer process.

Smaller transistors can improve performance and reduce power consumption. The exact gains will depend on Apple’s final chip design and software.

Some estimates point to a performance increase of about 15% and efficiency gains near 30%. Those numbers remain unofficial.

Efficiency may be more important than raw benchmark scores. A faster chip attracts attention during a launch event. A chip that uses less power can improve battery life, reduce heat and support demanding AI features for longer periods.

The new processor could also use a different packaging method that places memory closer to the main chip. Such a change may improve communication between components and help Apple run more AI processing directly on the device.

Macworld’s collection of iPhone 18 Pro reports also points to the A20 Pro, Apple’s next modem and a reduced Dynamic Island as the most repeated hardware claims.

The Main Camera May Gain a Variable Aperture

Apple is rumored to be testing a variable aperture for the main 48-megapixel camera.

Aperture controls how much light enters a camera. Most smartphone cameras use a fixed opening. A variable system could adjust that opening for different scenes.

A wider aperture would allow more light to reach the sensor in dark environments. A narrower aperture could keep more of the scene in focus during daylight photography.

Such control would give experienced photographers more options. Automatic camera software could also adjust the aperture without requiring the user to change a setting.

The feature has appeared in earlier Android phones, so Apple would not be introducing a new idea. Apple’s advantage could come from combining the hardware with its image processing and video system.

Leaks do not agree on which Pro models will receive the feature. Availability may also depend on production costs.

A variable aperture can adjust how much light reaches the camera sensor, improving exposure control in different conditions.

A New Image Sensor Could Improve Difficult Photos

Apple has reportedly considered a three-layer image sensor for a future Pro camera.

The design could process light more quickly and capture a wider range between bright and dark areas. Night photographs may contain less noise. Moving subjects could also appear sharper.

No reliable report has confirmed that the sensor is ready for the iPhone 18 Pro. Camera components are tested years before they enter a finished product.

The rumor still fits Apple’s recent strategy. Camera improvements have become one of the clearest reasons to buy a Pro model. The company knows that faster chips alone are no longer enough to persuade owners of recent iPhones to upgrade.

Battery Life Could Be the Main Selling Point

The rumored weight increase has led to claims about a much larger iPhone 18 Pro Max battery. Some reports place its capacity between 5,000 and 5,200 mAh.

Apple rarely promotes iPhone batteries by their capacity. It usually describes battery life through hours of video playback.

A larger cell combined with a more efficient 2-nanometer processor could still produce a meaningful improvement. The Pro Max already attracts buyers who prioritize battery life. Another increase would strengthen that position.

The regular iPhone 18 Pro may receive a smaller improvement because its body offers less internal space.

A larger battery can extend daily use, but efficiency also depends on the display, processor, software, and network activity

Apple’s C2 Modem May Replace More Qualcomm Hardware

The Pro models are expected to include Apple’s C2 cellular modem.

Apple has spent years developing its own modem technology. Replacing Qualcomm hardware gives the company more control over power consumption, connectivity and the internal design of each phone.

The C2 may support faster 5G performance and stronger satellite connectivity. Rumors also mention broader satellite internet features, but details remain uncertain.

Emergency satellite communication is already available on recent iPhones. Full internet access through a satellite connection would be a much larger step.

A Deep Red iPhone Is Appearing in the Rumors

One of the more believable color rumors points to a deep red or dark cherry finish.

Leaked images allegedly connected to supplier testing showed a red Pro model. The color appeared darker than the bright Product Red finish used on some previous iPhones.

Silver and dark gray options are also expected. Light blue has appeared in several reports.

Color names can change shortly before production. Photographs of prototypes can also look different under factory lighting. I would treat the dark red finish as possible rather than certain.

How Much Could the iPhone 18 Pro Cost?

No confirmed price has been published.

Some reports predict that the iPhone 18 Pro could start at $1,299. That would represent a substantial increase. Rising memory costs, the 2-nanometer processor and new camera parts are being cited as possible reasons.

Price leaks are among the least reliable details before an Apple event. Storage configurations and regional pricing can change close to launch.

Apple may also use higher storage as the starting configuration. A price increase would then come with more capacity, allowing the company to avoid presenting the change as a direct hike.

Mashable’s July review of the iPhone 18 Pro leaks reaches a similar conclusion. Apple appears to be preparing a refinement of the current Pro design rather than a complete visual replacement.

The situation resembles the months before the iPhone 16 Pro was announced. Several early reports were accurate. Others described parts Apple tested but never released.

The iPhone 18 Pro price remains unconfirmed, with final pricing expected only when Apple officially announces the device.

Should Anyone Delay an Upgrade for the iPhone 18 Pro?

Owners of an iPhone 16 Pro or iPhone 17 Pro have little reason to make a decision based on rumors. Their current phones are recent. Waiting until Apple reveals the finished model costs them nothing.

People using an iPhone 12, iPhone 13 or an older device face a different decision. A current model may already deliver the battery, camera and speed improvement they need.

The rumored A20 Pro chip and larger Pro Max battery are the strongest reasons to wait. The design changes look modest. Under-display Face ID no longer appears likely.

Apple has published no iPhone 18 specifications, prices or release dates on its official newsroom. Every detail remains unofficial until the company makes its announcement.

The iPhone 18 Pro may not look radically different. Apple seems more interested in making the expensive model faster, longer-lasting and better at photography. The Pro Max could also become harder to ignore in your pocket, for better and for worse.
