GTA 6 Delay Could Push the Game Into 2027, Because Of Course It Could…

GTA 6 Delay Could Push the Game Into 2027

Here we go again.

Grand Theft Auto VI is scheduled for November 19, 2026. Pre-orders are already open, Rockstar has started selling the game and Take-Two continues to tell investors that the date remains the plan.

Yet another GTA 6 delay is back in the conversation after former Rockstar animator Mike York said he would not be surprised to see the game pushed back by six months.

York has no current role at Rockstar and offered no inside information about the state of development. He was speaking from his experience working on GTA 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2. His warning was hypothetical: should Rockstar reach November with a major mission still unfinished or filled with bugs, the studio would move the date rather than release the game in that condition.

The game has already missed two release windows, and Rockstar has shared little since opening pre-orders. One comment from a former employee is enough to restart the same argument because players have heard firm dates before.

Another GTA 6 Delay Has Not Been Announced

Rockstar still lists November 19 as the release date for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. No official announcement points to another postponement.

York also made clear that he no longer works at the studio. Speaking to The Independent about the possibility of another delay, he said his view came from earlier experience rather than current knowledge of the project.

His example was simple. Should a major mission remain in poor condition near launch, Rockstar would give the team additional time. York suggested that another six-month move would barely hurt the company because the audience would still be waiting whenever the game arrived.

He is probably right about that last part.

Most studios would lose sales, attention and credibility after repeatedly moving the biggest release on the calendar. Rockstar operates under different rules. People complained when GTA 6 moved out of 2025. They complained again when May 2026 became November. Pre-orders still opened to enormous interest.

The company knows the frustration will last until the next trailer appears. Then much of it will disappear within minutes.

Rockstar Has Put GTA 6 on Sale Before Proving the Date Is Final

Opening pre-orders was the clearest sign yet that Rockstar believes it can finish the game for November. Publishers rarely begin taking money while expecting an immediate delay.

They can still change the date.

Pre-orders are a commercial commitment, rather than a legal promise that development problems have ended. A publisher can move the launch, update store listings and offer refunds where required. It would create another public relations mess, though Rockstar would rather deal with angry posts than release a game with broken missions or serious performance problems.

Notebookcheck reported that pre-orders do not remove the possibility of a late delay, while noting that the current warning comes from a former employee describing how Rockstar has handled development in the past.

There is still no report showing that management is preparing to change the date. Right now, the story is about risk and public confidence, rather than a confirmed delay.

Rockstar Created This Mess

GTA 6 was originally expected in 2025. Rockstar later set May 26, 2026, before moving the game to November 19. Each time, the explanation came down to needing additional development time.

That is reasonable. GTA 6 will arrive under a level of scrutiny few games have ever faced. Every traffic system, animation, building interior and police response will be recorded, slowed down and compared with claims made years earlier. A poor launch would follow Rockstar for the rest of the decade.

The problem comes from asking players to trust another date while saying little about the work itself.

Pre-orders are live, yet the public still lacks a substantial gameplay presentation. Rockstar has shown polished trailers and carefully selected scenes from Leonida. Players have seen Jason, Lucia, Vice City and glimpses of the wider world. They have seen far less of the game running as someone would actually play it.

As I wrote earlier in the coverage of another GTA 6 trailer, Rockstar has allowed long gaps between major updates. That approach keeps every announcement enormous, though it also turns routine silence into a source of suspicion.

At this stage, people are reading development signals from investor calls, store updates and comments made by former employees. Rockstar could clear up much of the noise with a proper gameplay video. Instead, everyone is left studying the calendar again.

The Long Wait Has Changed the Standard for GTA 6

GTA 5 launched in September 2013. By the time GTA 6 arrives, more than 13 years will have passed between the two games.

That gap has created a strange problem for Rockstar. Additional time is supposed to produce a better game, yet every extra year raises expectations further. GTA 6 now has to feel like the result of a decade of work, several console generations and one of the largest development budgets in entertainment.

Players will forgive a delay when the final product justifies it. They will be far less forgiving should the game arrive after all this time with familiar open-world problems, limited interiors or an online mode built around aggressive spending.

Rockstar has earned patience through games that remain technically ambitious years after release. It has also benefited from a fan base with few alternatives. There is no other series capable of replacing GTA 6 while people wait.

That gives the studio room to move dates in a way most developers could never afford.

November Remains the Date Until Rockstar Says Otherwise

The current evidence still points to a November 19 launch. The date remains on the official store, pre-orders are active and neither Rockstar nor Take-Two has announced a change.

York did not report that GTA 6 is in trouble. He described the sort of decision Rockstar could make should the game fail to meet its standards near release.

After two delays, though, players have little reason to treat any date as permanent. Rockstar can insist that November remains on schedule, and that statement will be accurate. Confidence will come later, perhaps when the company finally shows extended gameplay or announces that the game has gone gold.

Until then, GTA 6 is coming in November.

Probably.
