Oreo has gone much further than changing the color of the creme for Halloween this year. The fall lineup includes hand-decorated monster cookies, a new dark chocolate ghost candy, the familiar Orange Creme Halloween pack and the return of Apple Pie a la Mode.
I am most curious about the dark chocolate ghosts, because they are something quite different instead of another round Oreo with a seasonal design.
The New Oreo Monster Cookies Come in Four Halloween Designs
The newest release arrived on September 8. Oreo Halloween Monster Cookies start with Double Stuf and Golden Oreo sandwich cookies, then get dipped in colored vanilla-flavored fudge and decorated by hand.
There are four designs in the box. You get a mummy, a Frankenstein-style monster and two one-eyed creatures covered in orange or purple fudge. Candy eyes, sprinkles and extra fudge finish the designs.
I like that Oreo did more here than print a pumpkin onto the cookie. If you put these out at a Halloween party, people are going to notice them before they reach for a regular bowl of candy.
Every monster is individually wrapped, and the box contains 12 cookies. That also explains part of the appeal. You can put them into party bags, give them out individually or arrange them on a dessert table without doing any decorating yourself.
Then you get to the price.
The 12-count box costs $39.99, which puts each cookie at more than $3. I would not spend that for something to eat on the couch during a movie. You are paying for the hand decorating and presentation as much as the Oreo underneath.
The Dark Chocolate Ghosts Are the Ones I Want to Try

The other new Halloween release does not look like an Oreo cookie at all.
Frankford Candy has made Oreo Cookies & Creme Ghosts with a dark chocolate shell and a filling made with Oreo cookie pieces and creme. Instead of the usual sandwich cookie, you get a smiling ghost-shaped piece of candy with the familiar Oreo flavor inside.
Parade reported on the Oreo Cookies & Creme Ghosts when they were first revealed for the season. The dark chocolate is what caught my attention. Oreo creme is already very sweet, so a darker chocolate shell sounds like a better match than another colored creme center.
The ghosts also make more sense as actual Halloween candy. They are individually wrapped and are being sold through retailers that carry Frankford Candy, including Walmart. You can put a bag straight into a candy bowl, which is much more practical than spending $39.99 on a box with only 12 Monster Cookies.
I would still choose the Monster Cookies for a party table because they look better on display. For something I would actually buy and eat, the dark chocolate ghosts are more tempting because they take the Oreo flavor in a different direction without turning it into an expensive novelty.
Halloween shelves are already packed with familiar names doing their own seasonal releases. We also looked at some of the most popular American candy brands and the treats that keep returning to candy bowls year after year.
Orange Creme Oreos Are Back, but Do Not Expect Orange Flavor

Orange Creme Oreos are also back for fall, and the name can be a little misleading if you have never bought them before.
The creme is orange in color. It does not taste like orange fruit.
You still get the familiar chocolate Oreo cookies and regular-style creme flavor, only dressed for Halloween. The cookies also have six seasonal designs, including a skull, witch hat, haunted mansion and jack-o-lantern. The package has glow-in-the-dark details too.
PennLive reported on the return of Orange Creme Oreos and Apple Pie a la Mode in August as the two seasonal favorites came back for fall.
If original Oreos are already your favorite, I would not overthink this one. You get the taste you know with a much better package for October. Kids might also have more fun checking the designs than they would with a normal pack.
If the words Orange Creme made you hope for some kind of chocolate-orange Oreo, though, you should skip it. That is not what Oreo is selling here.
Apple Pie a la Mode Actually Gives You a Fall Flavor

Apple Pie a la Mode is the one I would choose if I wanted a seasonal Oreo that actually tastes different.
Instead of the normal chocolate cookies, you get vanilla wafers with a creme filling flavored like apple pie and vanilla ice cream. The flavor first appeared in 2025 and is now back for another fall.
I like the idea more than simply turning the filling orange. Apple and cinnamon already taste like fall, so Oreo does not have to rely on pumpkins printed on the package to make the connection.
You might especially like these if Golden Oreos are already your preference. The vanilla cookie gives the apple pie filling a much cleaner base than the classic chocolate wafer would.
I would also try them with coffee rather than milk. Apple, cinnamon and vanilla sound much closer to something I would eat with a hot drink on a cool morning than something I would dunk into a cold glass of milk.
If you tried Apple Pie a la Mode last year and liked it, there is no surprise here. The bigger news is simply that Oreo decided to bring it back instead of leaving it as a one-season flavor.
Spooky Colored Creme Oreos Are Back Too

Orange Creme is not the only regular Oreo wearing Halloween colors.
Spooky Colored Creme Oreos have returned with orange and green creme inside. The flavor stays familiar, so once again you are mainly buying the Halloween look rather than a new cookie recipe.
I can see these working well if you have kids over for a party and want something easy. Put them on a plate, and they already match everything else on the table. You do not have to frost cupcakes, draw spiderwebs on brownies or spend an hour making a dessert look seasonal.
Adults who care more about flavor than color can safely move on to Apple Pie a la Mode or the dark chocolate ghosts.
You Don’t Have to Wait Until Halloween
Halloween is still weeks away, but Oreo has already put most of the season on shelves and online. I actually prefer that. By the time October 31 arrives, many of the limited releases people wanted to try are already difficult to find.
If one of these sounds good to you, I would look for it before the final week of October rather than assuming it will still be sitting there on Halloween weekend.
I am starting with the dark chocolate ghosts if I find them. Apple Pie a la Mode would be my backup. The monster box looks great, but at $39.99 I need a party before I can convince myself that twelve decorated Oreos belong in my cart.
