The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board will open its public boat launches and invasive species inspections at Lake Calhoun, Lake Harriet and Lake Nokomis on Friday, May 1 at 6 a.m.
The launches will now host blue information booths staffed by watercraft inspectors beginning April 27. The booths will serve as hubs for park visitors and future education and outreach efforts.
This is the fourth year that all watercrafts or water-related equipment are required to be inspected for invasive species at Lake Calhoun, Lake Harriet and Lake Nokomis.
Boaters who do not exit the lake by the following closing times will be required to secure their boat at the launch and return for it the next day.
Boat launch hours with on-duty acquatic invasive species inspectors:
May 1 to Sept. 30
Daily, 6 a.m. to 10 p.m.
Boaters encouraged to launch watercraft before 9 pm.
Oct. 1 to Oct. 31
Daily, 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
Boaters encouraged to launch watercraft before 8 pm.
Nov. 1 to Dec. 1
Daily, 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.
