(UPDATE: This story has been revised because the forum for the venue has changed.)
Five candidates running for Hennepin County Commissioner Gail Dorfman’s seat will participate in a candidate forum Jan. 30, 7:30–9 p.m., at SpringHouse Ministry, 610 W. 28th St.
Dorfman is leaving the County Board to start a new job as executive director of St. Stephen’s Human Services on March 3. Her official last day as commissioner is March 1.
There will be a special election since she’s leaving the post several months early. The date of the special election hasn’t been announced yet.
The League of Women Voters of Minneapolis will moderate the forum. Candidates running for the 3rd District Commissioner seat include St. Louis Park City Council Member Anne Mavity, Hennepin County prosecutor Ben Schweigert, public policy consultant Katie Hatt, former state Sen. Ken Kalesh and former state Rep. Marion Greene.
The county’s 3rd District includes St. Louis Park and southwest Minneapolis neighborhoods. The debate over the proposed Southwest LRT line has been the dominant issue for the district in recent months and will be a key issue facing the new commissioner elected for the seat.
