A new taco joint is coming to Southwest Minneapolis.
Taberna, a restaurant specializing in street tacos, is going into the ground level space of The Foundry apartment building on West Lake Street near Calhoun Village Shopping Center in Cedar-Isles-Dean.
Owner Chris Corlett, who lives in the area and grew up near Lake Harriet, said he is excited to bring a taco restaurant to the neighborhood, which has a number of restaurants but no true taco bar.
“We’re trying to fill some voids over there,” he said.
Menu details are still being worked out, but rest assured there will be tacos, a bar and, according to signage outside, games.
Corlett left Minneapolis to attend the Culinary Institute of America in New York City and spent time managing luxury hotels in Los Angeles. He moved back to Minneapolis a few years ago and opened the fresh noodle shop Rah’mn in 2017 on Snelling Avenue in St. Paul.
Taberna is hoping to open around the end of July or early August, Corlett said.
