Fig to Fork is lining up local chefs to plan the menus for weekly grocery deliveries.
The new business comes from New York transplant Kimberly Emery, who previously worked long hours in the fashion industry. Her first job in New York was personal assistant to Mickey Drexler, CEO of J. Crew.
“…I had zero intention of moving back,” said Emery, who grew up in Minnesota.
That is, until she met her Minnesotan fiancée.
Emery was accustomed to eating out every night in New York, and while dating her fiancée, she became familiar with Minneapolis restaurants.
“You guys have awesome chefs,” she said.
She decided to start a venture that would support the local talent. She personally designed the website, works out of her CARAG neighborhood home, packs boxes at Midtown Global Market, and makes deliveries throughout the metro with the assistance of her dad. She launched the business in August and moved to Minnesota a week later.
“I’m used to moving at a fast pace,” she said. “…This is a new challenge, I wanted to do something new.”
Boxes have featured chefs including Don Saunders of The Kenwood, Alan Bergo of The Salt Cellar and Thomas Boemer of Revival. Boxes priced at $52.95 are filled with two meals for two adults with ingredients like fresh fish and mango for a healthy snack. Family size boxes are also available.
Fig to Fork donates food to the U of M Masonic Children’s Hospital each week and gives clients the opportunity to donate as well.
“It’s a cause very near my heart, and I like knowing we’re providing healthy bites in place of what the vending machines have to offer,” Emery said.
