Nicollet Bookstore has closed at 4237 Nicollet Ave., and the neighboring Odds N Ends store will expand into the space.
Book shop owner Karen Hallinan said she’s retiring after 21 years in business.
“I’m going to enjoy being at home,” she said.
She quietly marked books half-off for a while, then donated more than 2,000 titles to charity groups.
Hallinan said she decided to retire due to a combination of factors. People are reading fewer books, she said, parking became more difficult in the area, and the price to stay became too high. She said the shop was always a hobby business rather than a money-maker.
Odds N Ends is also a longtime tenant on the block, starting its 20th year in business. The shop has noticed the impact of hour-long wait times at neighboring Revival, according to clerk TJ Guenther.
“It’s really increased traffic later in the day,” he said.
Odds N Ends sells antiques, artwork, wool rugs and furniture.
