Matchbox Theater’s first production is on stage

The Matchbox Theater’s inaugural production on Nicollet is Will Eno’s dark comedy “Thom Pain (based on nothing),” running every Friday and Saturday in April.

The play was a finalist for a Pulitzer in 2005, and the one-man show stars William Hoeschler and is directed by Douglas Stewart, founder of the theater.

A news release says Thom Pain’s stories reveal his dysfunctional past in “poetic-prose fashion,” with stories ranging from tragic to comic. A New York Times reviewer said the play could leave viewers alternately exhilarated, in stitches, or in a puddle of tears.

Matchbox is located below Robin’s Nest at 5456 Nicollet Ave., and tickets must be reserved in advance to secure seats in the tiny theater.
