Jungle Theater names new Artistic Director

Following a nationwide search, the Jungle Theater has chosen director Sarah Rasmussen of Texas as its new Artistic Director.

Rasmussen takes on the position founder Bain Boehlke has held since 1991. She directed the Jungle Theater’s “In The Next Room” in 2012, which won the Ivey Award for overall excellence. This spring she is directing an adaptation of Jane Austen’s “Sense and Sensibility” for the Dallas Theater Center, and she currently works as head of the MFA Directing Program for the University of Texas at Austin. Last season, she directed “The Two Gentlemen of Verona,” the Oregon Shakespeare Festival’s first all-female Shakespeare production.

As Artistic Director, Rasmussen will be responsible for selecting performances, overseeing productions and directing two plays per season.

“This town is the place that inspired me to become a director,” Rasmussen said in a statement. A news release said she grew up in South Dakota and began directing theater as a teenager, inspired by local Guthrie and Children’s Theatre shows.

“Bain has created an exquisite theater-going experience, and I look forward to building on that legacy, inviting audiences to experience stories both familiar and new,” she said.
