Judge rules to evict Cause Spirits & Soundbar

A Hennepin County judge ruled in favor of evicting Cause Spirits & Soundbar in late December for $20,000 in unpaid rent.

Property owner Marbill Properties Limited Partnership initially sought eviction in July, saying Cause (called by its former name Sauce in court documents) had outstanding rent payments amounting to $147,523 that accumulated between February 2011 and July 2014. The issue was settled the following month, with Cause agreeing to pay the outstanding amount.

Marbill filed another complaint in September, citing payments due amounting to $9,334, but dropped the case.

In mid-December, Marbill’s most recent complaint said the club failed to maintain required insurance and didn’t pay rent in November or December, with outstanding debt reaching $20,000.

Cause launched an Indiegogo fundraising campaign last fall to “reopen better than ever & continue the fight for live music and art.” The campaign raised $2,000, falling short of a $20,000 goal.

The owner of Cause could not be reached for comment, and staff at The Ackerberg Group did not respond for comment.
