Lago Tacos opened a second location Thursday at 2901 Lyndale Ave. S., expanding its reach beyond Lake Minnetonka in Excelsior.
Heidi’s Minneapolis previously occupied the space on Lyndale until it closed in December.
Nikki Race, Lago Tacos general manager, said the restaurant’s biggest asset is its unique patio that features an indoor bar that opens up into another bar outside and a bonfire pit.
“It’s something that has been needed in this area, food-wise,” Race said.
Lago Tacos prides itself on serving fresh food to customers. Race explained that everything from food to margaritas is homemade. Margaritas are made in-house with fresh lime juice every day.
The menu has a wide range of 17 types of tacos to choose from, including steak tacos, sesame chicken tacos, pulled-pork tacos and the most popular item on the menu, beer-battered walleye tacos ($12.95).
“There’s a lot of other taco places around. We don’t categorize ourselves as Mexican food,” Race said. “We just like to say we have a bunch of fun tacos to choose from.”
Other popular choices among customers have been the steak quesadilla appetizer and the mahi spinach and ahi tuna salads.
The restaurant delivers and caters food in homes and businesses. The taco bar features build-your-own tacos of chicken, tinga, beef and potato and/or carnitas.
Race said that adding another Lago Tacos location in the future is an “absolute” possibility.
