Cause Spirits and Soundbar closing

Venue's last day is July 12

LYNDALE — Lyn-Lake live-music venue Cause Spirits and Soundbar announced it would close in July.

Manager Larry Romanowicz confirmed the bar and restaurant would open for the last time July 12 and close its doors for good at 2 a.m. on July 13. The bar’s owner, Mike Riehle, could not immediately be reached for comment.

The business opened in 2009 as Sauce Spirits and Soundbar but later swapped two letters in its name to become Cause. The change was made in 2010 to avoid a trademark dispute with Sauce Pizza & Wine, a restaurant chain then planning a St. Louis Park location.

Cause picked up the live-music torch for the Uptown area when the grungy but legendary Uptown Bar closed in the fall of 2009. Cause even inherited longtime Uptown Bar bouncer Ron Upton.

Ackerberg Group manages the 3001 Lyndale Ave. S. property for the owner, listed in Hennepin County records as Marbill Properties Limited Partnership.

Significant changes are coming to the Lyn-Lake intersection, with two major tenants disappearing.

Falafel King, a longtime tenant of the intersections southwest corner, reportedly will close in September. The other two corner tenants are It’s Greek to Me restaurant and an outpost of Milio’s Sandwiches.
