The owner of Balance Fitness is opening a wellness co-op at 3041 Aldrich Ave. S.
Morgan Luzier said the new co-op is a way for independent businesses to save money on their storefronts.
“We’re overcoming this idea of competition to collaborate,” she said.
She compared the co-op to the Mayo Clinic model, where doctors talk to each other — a patient’s oncologist might share notes with their therapist, for example.
“We’re using the same model in wellness,” Luzier said. “My objective is not really to have employees or build an empire of wellness practitioners that work under me. My goal is community building.”
The move-in ready building was a former plumbing shop and garage. Photographer Paul Nelson, the former tenant, completely renovated the building. (Nelson is relocating to a Northeast studio.)
Co-op members include Gyrotonic trainer Susan Gaines; Rich Bluma, a physical therapist who works to prevent injuries; chiropractor Richard Hills; and massage therapists Jane Burke and Krista Scarvie.
The co-op is slated to open May 15. Parking is available at New Wine Church across the street.
