Three dealers from Hunt & Gather have opened a new storefront at 3012 W. 50th St.
The shop Camp Sandy is named for Sandy Stone, a Linden Hills artist and upholsterer who uses reclaimed materials.
“It’s a tiny tent of curiosity,” Stone said of the shop. “I like to find castoffs and reinvent them.”
The small 11-by-17 foot space is crammed with finds from flea markets and estate sales. Pillows, linens, animal bones and glass jars crowd the shelves; picture frames and statues are tacked to the ceiling. There is handmade stationery, chairs upholstered with old awning fabric, boxes of buttons, taxidermy, and books stacked in dated lockers.
The owners include Stone; Hunt & Gather owner Kristi Stratton; and Charlotte Strait, who also works with textiles. They said the shop is different from Hunt & Gather in its showcase of Stone’s work and its curated feel.
The store is currently open Saturday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. and Sunday, 12-6 p.m.
