A decidedly laid-back yoga studio is now open in a vacant space at 23 E. 26th St.
Yess Yoga offers drop-in hours for meditation, as well as classes that take advantage of the neighborhood: Yoga followed by a trip to Glam Doll Donuts, for example, or yoga followed by a rock-climbing trial at Vertical Endeavors.
“That neighborhood is so neat, there is so much happening in Whittier,” said founder Lucia Yess. “There is a lot of diversity in the food and restaurant and business owners.”
Yess has studied yoga in India, and she earned a 200-hour yoga teaching certificate in South Korea. She previously rented an hourly space at 40th & Lyndale, and decided the time was right to take the plunge to a full-time storefront.
She said her classes are focused on the development of “letting go.”
“It’s relaxing, and it’s less about the physical workout,” she said. “My 81-year-old grandma came to the class last night. Every single person can find comfort in that class, and still feel their muscles are engaged.”
