The former Kinsen space has a new occupant: Hammer & Sickle, a Russian vodka bar with Eastern European food.
The restaurant will offer caviar flights and vodka flights — the vodka selection numbers over 60. Chef Phil Dvorak’s menu will focus on Russian cuisine, featuring pierogies and Russian-style barbeque skewers. Stroganoff is available in the authentic Russian style, served over mashed potatoes instead of noodles.
“This is something new to the Uptown neighborhood,” said General Manager Tony Ostlund. “Some of the menu is going to be traditional, but a lot will have an American twist to it. … The kitchen will be open until 2 a.m. every night for those looking for a late-night bite.”
The venture comes from Gene Suh, the owner of the Lyndale Tap House at 29th & Lyndale and The Valley Tap House in Apple Valley. Suh is also opening the Prairie Tap House in Eden Prairie this fall.
The restaurant at 1300 Lagoon Ave. will provide seating for 76 inside and 21 outside on the sidewalk.
The opening date is targeted for early October.
