The blow dry bar Gust-o is now open at 3054 Excelsior Blvd., founded by a former Target event marketer and a former aide to U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar.
“We were looking for something entrepreneurial and fun that was also focused on helping women feel great about themselves,” said co-founder Betsy Hawn. “If you look great, you feel great.”
She said they hadn’t found an efficient salon for blowouts (a blow-dry and style) at a price point that made sense, and decided to create one themselves.
Hawn said women come to Gust-o to prep for special events, and others come in during the week — hair that’s blown out well can last for days, she said. Additional services include makeup consultations, massage, deep conditioning treatments, paraffintreatments and party rentals.
Gust-o has one another location in Boston, the city where co-owner Kacey Pohlad recently relocated. Both salons offer health insurance for their staff, a perk that Hawn said is unusual in the industry.
