Ganchen switches name to Tibet

STEVENS SQUARE — If you’re trying to find Gangchen at 1833 Nicollet Ave. S., look instead for Tibet Kitchen Bar & Restaurant.

The restaurant has a new owner and a new name, but the menu is essentially the same, according to Manager Thubten Tadin.

Tadin said customers occasionally misunderstand the first syllable of Gangchen, so they decided to switch the name to “Tibet.” Tibet is known to have several names, he said, one of which is “gangchen,” or “land of snow.”

The hours of operation are also a bit different: the restaurant closes at midnight seven days a week, instead of 2 a.m.
