A fresh pile of snow made for nearly ideal conditions for the City of Lakes Loppet Festival — a three-day celebration of winter sports held at Theodore Wirth Park and the Chain of Lakes Friday through Sunday.

More than 11,000 people registered for at least one of the Loppet’s 25 events, according to organizers.

Winter enthusiasts could compete in one of the many cross-country races or snowshoe, snow sculpture, fat tire bike, dogsled, skijoring or speedskating competitions. The Luminary Loppet on the Lake of the Isles was another major draw as skiers enjoyed a trek around the lake as hundreds of luminaries glowed around the lake.
