Wedge Community Co-op employees voted to unionize on Nov. 16, becoming the Twin Cities’ first cooperative grocery to unionize.
In a statement, the Wedge said management remained neutral on the issue. Management told employees there would be no discrimination or unfair treatment, and provided meeting space for the union and employees.
The co-op’s warehouse is already unionized, and its UFCW Local 1189 will also represent employees at the Lyndale store.
Wedge management said they expect “the spirit of collaboration to continue through the negotiation of a contract.”
