The Minneapolis Arson Unit is ruling the cause of a Jan. 12 fire at 2427 Pleasant Ave. S. “undetermined.”
According to a news release, firefighters arrived at 10:54 p.m. Monday night to find heavy fire visible from the second floor. Firefighters extinguished fire in a bedroom, and said the blaze didn’t extend far beyond the room.
Firefighters found a single victim in the house. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner’s Office said Karl Vanden Branden, age 60, died the following morning as a result of complications from thermal injuries and smoke inhalation.
The fire remains under investigation, a standard procedure when a cause “cannot be proven to a certain level of certainty.”
