The 5th Precinct is looking for more block club leaders. The leaders receive email alerts of crime within a one-two block radius of their homes, and they’re tasked with forwarding the alerts to neighbors.
The Precinct reports that the alerts can help reduce crime: The Campbell Collaboration showed a 16-26 percent reduction in crime on blocks that were organized, though the reduction may reflect other factors as well.
For more information, crime prevention specialists are willing to meet at coffee shops, or they offer two upcoming training sessions. The sessions are Jan. 26, 6-7 p.m. or Jan. 29, noon-1 p.m. at the 5th Precinct, 3101 Nicollet Ave.
