Preservation awards go to Abbott Apartments, Donaldson Mansion

The Abbott Apartments project at 110 E. 18th St. has won a Minnesota Preservation Award from the Preservation Alliance of Minnesota. The awards go to the state’s best preservation success stories. Originally a women’s hospital constructed in 1910, the apartments contain some of the original terrazzo floors and hardwood banisters.

Another local winner was the Donaldson Mansion, a Lowry Hill mansion built in 1906 for Lawrence Donaldson, co-founder of the Donaldson Department Store. The owners have restored the home over the past decade, and the property is for sale, priced at $4.5 million.
