City clears four apartment projects for development

The city’s Planning Commission approved four apartment projects in recent weeks totaling 257 new units, with much of the new construction near Lake Calhoun.

16Twenty 1618-20 W. Lake St. and 2915 James Ave. S.

CPM Development’s three-story (46-foot) project will feature 18 ground-level parking spaces, with the first and second levels occupied by commercial and office space. The third level will have six apartments with outdoor balconies.

The project will provide office space for its architect, Peterssen/Keller Architecture.

Calhoun Chiropractic Clinic and Accent Arts are still operating on the corner at this time; Calhoun Bike Rental has closed.

2622 W. Lake St.

Greystar plans to build eight stories (100 feet) of 90 apartments with heights that step down to the Midtown Greenway.

The project will have two levels of underground parking, terraces and amenity decks. Units will be large, averaging 1,600 square feet, and priced at $2.30-$2.60 per square foot.

3118 W. Lake St.

The project will include a new restaurant by the family that operates Tryg’s and previously ran Porky’s Drive-in.Trammell Crow Co. has approval to build six stories (75 feet) with 157 apartments at the Tryg’s restaurant site.

5336 Lyndale Ave. S.

The owner of Diamond Lake Rental now has city approval to build three stories to replace the burnt-out structure on the block.

The building will have retail on the first floor and four rental lofts on the upper floors. It will have a brick and stucco exterior, with a color scheme similar to other Lyndale Avenue buildings.
