Crime update for mid-May


May 16–17, overnight / 2100 block of Oliver Avenue South

Officers were dispatched to the above location regarding a burglary. The victim, a 48-year-old woman, stated that several items were missing from her kitchen. There were so signs of forced entry, and the victim noted that the outside door the her garage may have been unlocked overnight.



May 14–15, overnight / 3100 block of James Avenue South

A 41-year-old man reported that four tires, a bike and a battery charger were taken from his garage. The victim noted that the lock system of his garage was weak and could be “wiggled and pushed open.” There was no physical evidence at the scene.


May 17, 4 p.m. / 3000 block of Hennepin Avenue South

An unknown suspect took various kitchen utensils from the Gadgets and Cutlery section of a local business. The suspect was captured on video, which will be passed to police.


+May 18, 10:30 p.m. / 2900 block of James Avenue South

The owner of a local business was approached by two male suspects, who threatened the victim with a knife and forced him into the cooler of the business before fleeing. The victim stated that his cellphone and the keys to both the business and his car were taken.



May 8, 7:45 p.m. / 46th Street West & Blaisdell Avenue South

A 35-year-old woman left a local establishment and found the car her husband and dropped off previously to be missing. The husband had placed the keys under the floor mat of the vehicle.


May 9, 2 p.m. / 3600 block of Grand Avenue South

A 48-year-old woman parked her car legally on the street, and upon her return found the vehicle missing. The victim could not find her keys and stated she may have left them in the vehicle.



May 13, 4:22 a.m. / Lake Street & Third Avenue South

A 44-year-old woman was standing near a bus stop when she was approached by two males who grabbed her purse from her shoulder and fled the scene. According to the police report, the victim stated she “didn’t care so much about the loss, just that these guys need to be caught because she always gets caught for her stuff.”


+May 16, 9:30 p.m. / 4600 block of Clinton Avenue South

A 30-year-old man was walking home when an unknown suspect approached him and spoke a few words before punching him in the face. The victim’s phone fell to the ground and the suspect took it and fled the scene.


May 17–18, overnight / 2900 block of Third Avenue South

A 32-year-old female stated that her bicycle was taken from either her enclosed front porch or living room area. There was no suspect information.



May 10, 4:40 a.m. / 1900 block of 1st Avenue South

Officers responded to the above location where a fight was in progress. Gunshots were heard in the area after which the suspects fled the area and were not found.



May 11, 8 p.m. / 5900 block of Nicollet Avenue South

A 44-year-old man concealed several packaged fish items in his waistband and left the store at the above location without paying. A witness notified an off-duty officer, who detained the suspect.


May 12–13, overnight / 4400 block of Nicollet Avenue South

A building housing two businesses was burglarized for the third time in seven years. The alarm of the establishment had not been activated the night of the burglary. Various items were taken, including a computer.


May 15, 11:50 a.m. / 2000 block of Nicollet Avenue South

Officers were dispatched to the above location on report of shoplifting. The suspect was followed by a witness until he was stopped by the officers. The 49-year-old suspect was known to the officers as a chronic offender and was taken to Hennepin County Jail for Theft.
