City hosting open house to gear up for residential construction season

The city’s Development Services Customer Service Center, 250 S. 4th St., is holding a spring open house Wednesday, April 30, 3:30–6:30 p.m., to answer questions about residential remodeling and building projects.

Mayor Betsy Hodges, City Council members and Doug Kress, director of Development Services, will be at the open house as well. Hodges and Kress will make brief remarks at 4 p.m.

There will be free informational seminars starting at 4:30 p.m. Topics include:  “Building a Deck – What do you need from the City?,” “Zoning 101,” “Healthy Home Environments,” “Home Business Licensing 101,” “Green Initiatives – green Roofs, rain barrels, managing water runoff, and more,” and “Homeowners guide to permitting – which remodeling projects need permits?”

People can purchase residential building permits and critical parking permits during the event. There’s also a chance to win a free carbon monoxide/smoke detector from Minneapolis Regulatory Services. Free home radon test kits will also be available.
