HOME Line, a tenant advocacy group, will be expanding its free hotline for renters seeking legal advice to Minneapolis on April 1.
The organization launched in 1992 and served suburban Hennepin County and will now be serving the entire state with the Minneapolis expansion.
Six housing attorneys and volunteers from area law schools take calls to the hotline. The organization is expecting to serve about 3,000 Minneapolis residents each year. Frequent calls to the hotline are about damage deposits, evictions, breaking leases and bed bugs, according to HOME Line.
Pat Longs, a senior case manager for Rapid Exit Programs, at CAPSH, Community Action Partnership of Suburban Hennepin, said HOME Line helps build communities. “The services provided by this organization will be very beneficial and serve a population that has been traditionally underserved. By offering services that focus on tenant-landlord relationships, HOME Line will be providing the opportunity to increase education of rental law to renters,” Longs said.
