Hennepin County is considering narrowing traffic down to one lane on two blocks of Xerxes north of Highway 62.
The potential change comes in response to complaints from Edina residents on Xerxes who aren’t subject to the same rush hour parking restrictions as the Minneapolis side of the street. Edina residents worry about pedestrian safety during busy traffic times and worry it isn’t safe to park on Xerxes, said Hennepin County Engineer Jim Grube.
County staff are studying the impact of lane delineators currently installed between West 60th Street and Highway 62 on Xerxes.
“We want to engage people from Minneapolis and Edina to see if making it permanent is the right decision,” Grube said.
If the change becomes permanent, the county will build bumpouts after the spring of 2014.
