Local neighborhoods are collecting input on improvements people would like to see along Minnehaha Creek.
A trail extension? Community gardens? Boat launches? No change at all?
So far, people have suggested all of the above, along with ideas for community gardens, legal off-leash dog hours, new bike paths and fewer weeds. Others have suggested unpaved paths, new bridges at Forestdale Road and York Avenue, or improved spillways at York and Washburn avenues for better water quality.
The Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board plans to allocate money to creek-area improvements in 2018.
“It could end up being spent anywhere along the creek,” said Jane Kohnen, a member of the Fulton Neighborhood Association.
A board placed along the creek collected feedback on the area between the Lynnhurst Park building and Zenith Avenue for two months — until the board disappeared the weekend of July 13.
More opportunities for input will come at neighborhood festivals in Armatage (Aug. 12) and Fulton (Sept. 7). People can also send thoughts to firstname.lastname@example.org.
