THE WEDGE – The Lowry Hill East Neighborhood Association’s second-annual Free Swap is offering neighbors a chance to reduce waste while shopping for free.
The neighborhood association’s Environmental Committee invites Wedge residents to make the most of their spring-cleaning. In an effort to reduce trash during move-out season, this event will facilitate the sharing of personal items that would otherwise find their way to the dumpster.
Neighbors are encouraged to drop by old materials or to take the discarded items of others, without the exchange of any money. All donated items must be in good condition. No broken or otherwise unusable items will be accepted.
Last year’s pilot Free Swap proved to be a success, with over 100 visitors on the first day.
The event will be held this weekend 10 a.m.–4 p.m. June 8 and noon–3 p.m. June 9 at Mueller Park, 2509 Colfax Ave. S.
The Lowry Hill East Neighborhood Association (LHENA) will also provide a free-pickups van service for residents donating heavier items 4 p.m.–6 p.m. June 7.
Though this event is intended just for Wedge residents, LHENA hopes that the success of their Free Swap in neighborhood sharing and reducing waste will inspire other areas to hold similar events.
