THE WEDGE — A suspect was dead and two Minneapolis Police officers were in the hospital following an incident Friday afternoon on the 2700 block of Bryant Ave. S.

Police reported the wounded officers were in stable condition at Hennepin County Medical Center but did not release the officers’ names. Police are seeking no other suspects in the incident, Public Information Officer Cyndi Barrington reported via Twitter.

The incident began with the suspect fleeing police first in a vehicle and then on foot. The suspect apparently fled into a house on Bryant Avenue South. The officers were “clearing the house” when shots were fired, Barrington wrote.

She later added that a police squad car responding to the shooting collided with a motorcycle carrying two people. One person on the motorcycle was killed. The other was being treated at HCMC for injuries sustained in the crash.

Mike Hansen was fixing a bicycle on the porch of his girlfriend’s house at the corner of 27th & Bryant as the incident unfolded.

Hansen said he did not hear gunshots, but witnessed officers responding at the scene with weapons drawn. He later saw one police officer being carried out of the house by two other officers and either the suspect or the second wounded officer receiving medical attention on the street in front of the home.

Barrington was posting updates Friday afternoon on the @MPD_PIO Twitter account.

UPDATE: Friday evening Barrington reported both of the officers who were shot and the suspect who was killed in the incident were men. She did not release any names.

Barrington also reported that the motorcycle rider who was killed was a man. A woman on the motorcycle was injured and taken to the hospital.

The collision occured at the intersection of 26th & Blaisedell. The squad car was responding to the 27th & Bryant incident.
