Minneapolis Institute of Arts joins Blue Star Museums

Active duty military personnel and their families get free admission through Labor Day

WHITTIER– The Minneapolis Institute of Arts will offer free admission to active duty military personnel and their families this summer through the Blue Star Museums program.

Recently established in 2010, Blue Star Museums runs from Memorial Day until Labor Day each summer. The program is driven by the MetLife Foundation through Blue Star Families, in collaboration with the Department of Defense, the National Endowment for the Arts and over 2,000 museums participating nationally.

The MIA will offer their “More Real? Art in the Age of Truthiness” and “It’s New / It’s Now: Recent Gifts of Contemporary Prints and Drawings” art exhibits to the Blue Star program this summer. To receive tickets, military personnel are asked to present their active military ID to the Will Call desk. Visitors may call 870-3000 prior to their visit in order to ensure a reserved date for free Blue Star exhibitions.

Several other Minneapolis museums have signed on to participate in the Blue Star program, including The American Swedish Institute, Bell Museum of Natural History, Fredrick R. Weisman Art Museum, Hennepin History Museum and Walker Art Center.
