Apartments could rise above former Beek’s Pizza building

The former Beek’s Pizza building could rise a little higher than it did before. The property owner is considering townhomes or apartments above new commercial space at 54th & Lyndale.

“We think it’s a viable option,” said Bill Graham, owner of Diamond Lake Party Rental.

A fire caused by spontaneous combustion of the attic insulation destroyed the existing building in January. The property owner has commissioned architectural drawings of the rebuild. The scale of the project is not yet determined.

Diamond Lake Party Rental continues to operate without its storefront, taking reservations and making deliveries.

It is uncertain whether Beek’s will return to the block. Co-owner Philip E. Bang died March 8 at the age of 70. Bang owned Beek’s King of Pizza for 52 years with his wife Mari. Beek’s operates a second location in St. Louis Park.
