Feb. 23–24, overnight
5700 block of Emerson Avenue South

A woman’s vehicle was rummaged through and her garage was burglarized.


Feb. 24, 9 to 11 a.m.
Lake Harriet band shell

A 68-year-old woman parked her car at the band shell and walked her dogs around the lake. When she returned, her rear driver’s side window was smashed and her purse had been taken from under her seat. The suspect or suspects used her credit and debit cards.

Feb. 27, 7:45 p.m.
4000 block of Washburn Avenue South

A woman walked to her car, which was parked in front of her home. After getting in, she realized she had left her cell phone in her house. She ran back to get it, and when she walked back outside she saw a person running away with her purse.


Feb. 21-22, overnight
3000 block of W. Lake Street

A woman parked her vehicle in the underground parking garage of her building. Some time overnight, her GPS device was taken from her vehicle.


Feb. 23, 7 to 8:15 p.m.
2020 W. Lake of the Isles Parkway

A 22-year-old man and a 62-year-old woman parked their car on the street before chairing an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting at Lake of the Isles Lutheran Church. At some point during the meeting, an unknown person smashed their passenger side window and took a backpack.


Feb. 24, 11 a.m.
Lyndale & 22nd

A 53-year-old man was playing guitar outside the Wedge Community Co-op for tips.
He had plugged his cell phone into an outlet inside the store. Someone took the phone while he was outside playing. The man went to Verizon Wireless, and the staff was able to trace his phone to a World of Wireless store in St. Paul, where it had been sold.

Feb. 22, 10 p.m.
10 W. Lake St.

Taylor J. Scheller, 21, of Minneapolis, was arrested on theft charges at Kmart.

+ Feb. 26, 6:15 p.m.
22nd and 1st
A 28-year-old man was being followed by another man. When he stopped to wait for the bus, the man following him asked what time it was. The 28-year-old pulled out his cell phone to show the man, and the man grabbed the phone and ran.


Feb. 27, 4 p.m.
3009 Nicollet Ave. S.

Twice in the span of a few days, the same suspect went into a Radio Shack and took the same piece of equipment without paying.


Feb. 21, 5:30 p.m.
3001 Hennepin Ave. S.

Marc J. Hegler, 34, of Forest Lake, was arrested after he ate at the Uptown Cafeteria and Support Group and tried to leave without paying his tab. A citizen arrested him a short distance from the restaurant.

Feb. 26, 1:15 p.m.
3001 Hennepin Ave. S.

Two cell phones were taken from AT&T. The theft was captured on a surveillance system, showing a suspect removing the backs of phones from security devices.


Feb. 24, 1 a.m.
5444 Nicollet Ave. S.

An unknown suspect filled up a vehicle with gas at the Holiday station and drove off without paying. A Holiday employee wrote down the license plate number, but when police checked, the number was not on file.

Feb. 17, 3 p.m.
3800 W. Lake St.

A suspect was checking out at the SuperAmerica store. He gave the clerk a $100 bill. When the clerk was making change, the suspect snatched both the $100 bill and the change before running out of the store. The clerk was unable to stop the suspect.


Feb. 20, 12:30 p.m.
4999 France Ave. S.

A suspect walked into Birkenstock Footprints, took a pair of boots and fled.

36th and Pleasant

A 31-year-old man was robbed at gunpoint. Two suspects took his wallet before leaving in a red Dodge Durango.

Feb. 17-18, Overnight
4000 block of Blaisdell Avenue

A man said he and his wife went to bed and at some point, someone came into the unlocked back door and took $25 and two credit cards from his wallet. The wallet was sitting about 100 feet from the couple’s bedroom.


Feb. 14, 6 a.m.
2700 44th St. W.

A 32-year-old woman parked her vehicle in her building’s secured, underground parking garage for 10 minutes, leaving her backpack inside. When she returned, her vehicle’s window was broken and someone had taken her backpack, containing a laptop computer and an iPod. Police spoke to other residents of the building, who said they didn’t see any suspicious activity.  


Feb. 15, 5:30 p.m.
1104 Lagoon Ave.

Police arrested Ronald J. Swientek, 50, of Minneapolis, on a charge of theft after he allegedly concealed meat from the Rainbow Foods deli and walked out the front door before a store employee stopped him. The man said he was just hungry.


Feb. 17, 2 a.m.
105 W. Lake St.

An intoxicated 43-year-old man said a woman — who was later joined by two men — assaulted him. They took his driver’s license and debit card. The three suspects fled the scene. The victim had a cut on his index finger, but declined medical attention.

Feb. 17, 2 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.
3557 Blaisdell Ave. S.

A woman told police that someone broke into her home and took a Nintendo Wii, a laptop computer, an iPad and a digital camera. The woman said the suspect may have entered through a patio door, but a small basement window was also found partially open.


Feb. 15, 9:30 a.m.
4614 Nicollet Ave.

A suspect went behind the counter of Nicollet Tobacco and took cash.


Feb. 15, 12:15 p.m.
30 W. Lake St.

Police arrested Sheila A. Bowie, 56, of Minneapolis, on a theft charge after Supervalue employees detained her while she was trying to leave the store with $47 worth of meat in her purse.

Feb 17, noon
22nd and Nicollet

A 26-year-old woman said she got into an argument with her boyfriend. Her boyfriend went into her vehicle and stole her cell phone, cell phone charger and her ring.

Feb. 17, 6 p.m.
2101 3rd Ave. S.

A suspect kicked in the door to an apartment and stole more than one television before leaving in a vehicle.


Feb. 14, 12:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.
101 59th St. E.

A 25-year-old man parked his car outside of an apartment building overnight. When he returned to the car the next day, he discovered that his window been broken and 50 CDs were missing.

But that wasn’t all. He also saw that someone had written an expletive in black marker  and also wrote that he had better watch his back. The man discovered blood smeared on the back of the vehicle and a broken knife lying on the ground near the car.

The man told police he believes that the person responsible is the father of his girlfriend’s child.
