Gassen seeking approval for seven-story Uptown mixed-use development

Correction: The Planning Commission meets on Tuesday, not Monday.

A developer is seeking several variances from the city of Minneapolis to build a seven-level mixed-use project in the heart of Uptown.

Uptown Gassen, LLC, wants to tear down Cowboy Slim’s at 1312 W. Lake St. and build two levels of commercial space below five levels of residential. That would allow for 92 units of residential, two restaurants and several retailers, according to plans submitted to the Minneapolis Planning Commission.

The Planning Commission will hold a public hearing on the variances on Tuesday at 4:30 p.m. City staff has recommended approval of a conditional user permit and several variances.

Uptown Gassen is seeking a conditional use permit that is required for projects over four stories on that piece of land. 

The developer is proposing to build two levels of underground parking that would provide 104 spaces.
