Winstead pokes fun at the 2011 newsmakers

Lizz Winstead is returning to the Parkway Theater on New Year’s Eve for her third annual comedic review of the top and strangest news stories of the year.

The title of this year’s show is “Bang The Dumb Slowly.”

“I could occupy the Parkway for a month with me just talking about this year,” said Winstead, a Minnesota native who co-created the Daily Show.

She plans to riff on stories about the Republican candidates for president, the Kardashians and much more from 2011. She said she’s having a hard time deciding what to leave out, noting she could do an entire show devoted to Michelle Bachmann’s presidential campaign.

“Everybody needs a catharsis this year,” she said. “I am kind of taking the whole year and condensing it into its comedic form. It’s a great way to remember it, say good-bye to it and then move on.”

Winstead will hold two shows Dec. 31 at the Parkway Theater, 4814 Chicago Ave. S. — one at 7 p.m. and another at 9:30 p.m. For more information, visit
