KENWOOD

NRP plan modification approved

Kenwood Isles Area Association (KIAA) Board of Directors approved modifications to its Neighborhood Revitalization Program (NRP) Phase I plan in November that shifted some unspent funds into a neighborhood safety program.

About $540 in neighborhood NRP funds earmarked for parks, recreation and libraries were shifted into the “Safety/Security Capital Fund Strategy,” bringing total funding of that strategy to above $10,000.

The board also voted to modify the plan language so that safety and security funds could be spent on “issues related to the Southwest Light Rail Transit line.” The proposed line would run through the neighborhood along the Kenilworth Corridor.

Board member resigns

KIAA Board Member Eric Sjoding announced in November his intention to resign from the board before the end of the year.

Sjoding said he was taking a new position with his current employer and would be moving out of the state.

The KIAA Board of Directors will see significant turnover in the next couple of months. Long-serving board members Pat Scott and Kathy Williams announced in November they both intended to resign by the end of the year, and former chairperson Sam Murphy resigned prior to the board’s October meeting.

WHITTIER

Board holds closed meeting on property purchase

The Whittier Alliance Board of Directors went into closed session for about 45 minutes during its Oct. 27 meeting to continue an ongoing discussion over whether the neighborhood organization should purchase a building.

In the past, board members openly discussed purchasing a building in the neighborhood as an investment that would protect neighborhood funds during the final months of the Neighborhood Revitalization Program (NRP) and beyond. They continued that discussion behind closed doors in October after a reporter and neighborhood staff member left the room.

No vote took place on the matter after the meeting was reopened to the public.

In September, Whittier’s board approved a series of modifications to its NRP plan to clear the way for the purchase of either a commercial or residential
property. They also voted to give
Whittier Alliance Executive Director Marian Biehn authority to spend up to $325,000 on a property pending board approval.
