TANGLETOWN — Artescape Studio is now open at 5411 Nicollet Ave. S.
The studio provides aspiring artists with an affordable, cooperative workplace to hone their craft.
Among other amenities, the cozy 350 square-foot studio offers desks and drafting tables, storage, scanners, figure drawing sessions, group shows and open studio nights to guests and members artists.
A no-contract membership costs $80 per-month — $50 for students. Artists can work at Artescape for a daily rate of $15, with a $5 discount for students.
Owner Beth Rapatz has an illustration degree from the Art Institute of Austin, Tex. Her husband, who she met while living in San Francisco, is from Minneapolis, and the couple recently decided to relocate here.
“I actually did miss the seasons,” Rapatz said.
She said that given space limitations, Artescape is ideal “for artists who do crafts requiring less space.” Once the studio has enough members, she hopes to turn Artescape into an artists’ cooperative.
Artescape is hosting a fundraising an open house event on Oct. 30 from 6 p.m. to 10 p.m. The work of local artists will be for sale, with all proceedings going toward the studio. Artists donating work for the event get a 30 percent discount on a membership.
The event will feature beer, wine, free homemade baked goods, music by Matt Fox and Amber Sessions and a raffle with prizes. Guests arriving in a Halloween costume get a free custom illustrated sticker.
