Crime reports

+ 6013 Penn Ave. S. Sept. 3, 6:30 p.m.
Four acquaintances began arguing. The argument escalated. Eventually, one of the acquaintances pulled out a gun and fired at a 20-year-old man with whom he had been arguing. The man, who was not injured, told police that he knew the person who shot at him. The parties to the argument other than the victim, including the gunman, fled the scene in a purple car.



The Lowry, 2112 Hennepin Ave. S. Sept. 3, 2:30 a.m.
An unknown suspect broke a glass window at the back of the property and entered the restaurant. He then pried open an office door and stole a safe that was bolted to the floor, resulting in an undisclosed loss. Police noted that at the time of the incident the restaurant did not have a working alarm system or security cameras.



5501 Dupont Ave. S. Morning of Aug. 31
A 30-year-old man parked his car on the street the night before. He told police that when he returned to the vehicle the following morning, he found that the car’s door had been pried open and change had been stolen. He told police that the rearview mirrors on either side of the car had been regularly tinkered at night the previous couple weeks, leading him to believe that someone was walking around the neighborhood on a nightly basis looking to steal from cars.



34th St. & 1st Ave. S. Sept. 1, 1:30 a.m.
A 43-year-old man told police that his vehicle was shot at by an unknown suspect who was riding behind him in a dark colored SUV. The man told police that he and his female passenger weren’t injured. After the shooting, the SUV fled eastbound on 34th St. Police found shell casings and reported that there was visible damage to the man’s vehicle. There were no witnesses.

+ 3319 Pleasant Ave. S. Sept. 3, 3:30 a.m.
A 39-year-old man was entering his apartment when an unknown suspect approached him and pointed a black revolver in his face. The victim’s cell phone was stolen. Following the robbery, the suspect attempted to flee the scene on a bike, but fell. He then fled on foot.



1829 3rd Ave. S. Aug. 31, 10 p.m.
A 31-year-old man parked his car in the underground garage of his parking complex. Although he told police he believed he had locked his vehicle, when he returned the next morning he found the vehicle doors unlocked, his stereo missing from the dash and a change container stolen from the car. The victim told police he believed his neighbor perpetrated the theft, as he found a set of keys emblazoned with his neighbor’s condo number sitting on the front passenger seat.



Caribou Coffee, 4606 Nicollet Ave. S. Aug. 31, 5 p.m.

A 54-year-old woman placed her purse on the floor while she was talking with a friend. She told police that at one point during her conversation, she noticed someone digging through a cupboard directly behind her but didn’t think anything of it. When she got up to leave, she noticed her purse had been taken.



SuperAmerica, 2501 Hennepin Ave. S. Sept. 3, 3 a.m.
A party bus pulled into the gas station and about 30 passengers entered the convenience store. While inside, some of the passengers took merchandise and left the store without paying. A cashier called the police, but the party bus had already driven off northbound toward downtown by the time officers arrived.

1314 W. 28th St. Sept. 4, 2 p.m.
A 59-year-old man was helping his daughter move into a third-floor apartment. At one point, father and daughter both grabbed an armful of items from their car and hauled them upstairs without locking the vehicle. When they came back, they noticed a cell phone and GPS had been taken from the car.



+ The Bulldog, 2549 Lyndale Ave. S. Aug. 30, 11:30 p.m.
A 31-year-old woman was assaulted and robbed as she sat on the front porch of the property. Suspects fled on foot. The victim was transported to Abbott Northwestern Hospital.  

+ 2432 Stevens Ave. S. Sept. 2, 3 p.m.
A 25-year-old man was assaulted by an unknown suspect in front of the property. The suspect had already fled by the time officers arrived.

Kmart, 10 Lake St. W. Sept. 4, noon
An unknown suspect pried open a display case and took between $4,000 and $6,000 worth of jewelry. The incident was filmed by Kmart’s security cameras but the suspect left the scene without being arrested.

Calhoun Square, 3001 Hennepin Ave. S.
Aug. 21, 3 p.m.

A 46-year-old woman locked her bike to a rack and entered Calhoun Square. When she returned, she found someone had used an unknown tool to remove the lock and take her bike. The suspect left another bike behind at the scene of the incident.


East Isles

Chino Latino, 2916 Hennepin Ave. S.
Aug. 22, 1 a.m.

Officers responded to a report of non-payment of a bar tab. An employee at the restaurant told police a man walked out the door without paying his tab of $132. The employee followed the man and tried to get him to return, but the suspect fled westbound from the area.



+3741 1st Ave. S.
Aug. 18, 11 p.m.

Three men were standing behind their residence when they were approached and robbed at gunpoint. The unidentified suspect then fled the scene.

3015 Pleasant Ave. S.
Aug. 22, 3:30 a.m.

A suspect entered a dwelling through a ground-floor window while the residents were asleep. The residents woke up and saw the suspect run past where they were sleeping before hastily leaving the building. The victims told police they believe the suspect is their neighbor, adding they weren’t sure if anything was taken.

Hibachi Buffet, 111 E. Lake St.
Aug. 22, 12:30 p.m.

A 41-year-old man ate a meal then hurriedly left without paying. An employee escorted him back inside. The suspect said his ATM card didn’t work, but police cited him for failure to pay for meal at a restaurant.


The Wedge

2530 Dupont Ave. S.
Aug. 16, 6:30 a.m.
Officers arrived at a three-story apartment complex following reports of a burglary in a second-floor unit. The suspects gained entry by prying open the building’s back security door and then prying open the apartment unit door. A large flat-screen television was taken from the victim’s apartment.

2610 Fremont Ave. S.
Aug. 16, 8 a.m.
A 29-year-old man and a 27-year-old woman told police their dwelling, a first-floor apartment in a secure building, had been burglarized. The burglars used the same technique as burglars who struck another apartment building nearby earlier that morning — prying open the building’s back security door, then prying open the apartment unit door. The suspects took two computers, an iPod and a camera. The total loss was $5,400.

Old Chicago, 2841 Hennepin Ave. S.
Aug. 21, 11 p.m.–1 a.m.

The victim parked his car around 11 p.m., then returned about 1:15 a.m. to find the driver-side window smashed and his $3,000 laptop missing. He had placed the computer in a red computer bag under the front passenger seat.

1006 W. Lake St.
Aug. 22, 4:45 a.m.

Police arrived at the Buzza Building following a report of an audible security alarm going off. Looking around inside the building, they found a 33-year-old man and two 45-year-old men. All three were arrested for burglary.


West Calhoun

3029 France Ave. S.
Aug. 20, 6:30 a.m.

A 24-year-old man saw an unknown suspect pushing his stolen motorcycle down the street. The victim described the suspect as a white male in his 50s, about 5 feet 10, medium build, wearing a baseball cap and a back suede jacket. No arrest was made.

Aug. 16, 10 p.m.

A 38-year-old man was walking down Blaisdell Avenue when an unknown suspect approached him and attempted to take his wallet. After a struggle, the suspect hit the victim over the head with an object and made off with his wallet. The victim suffered a head wound and was transported to the hospital.

Aug. 18, 9 p.m.

A 38-year-old man was punched in the face and robbed at his apartment building. Suspects ran southbound from the scene. The victim was transported to HCMC for medical treatment.

2940 Pillsbury Ave. S.
Aug. 19, 11:30 p.m.

A witness observed a 21-year-old man and an 18-year-old man trying car door handles on the street. The witness observed them gain entry to a vehicle, remove what looked to be a laptop from the car and then flee in another vehicle. The two suspects were later arrested.

CVS Pharmacy, 2001 Nicollet Ave. S.
Aug. 22, 4:20 p.m.

A 50-year-old woman used an ATM at the store. Before she could grab all of the cash she withdrew from the ATM tray, a suspect grabbed some of her money then ran out the building. Police were provided with a security video of the incident.

McDonalds, 2400 Nicollet Ave. S.
Aug. 22, 9:30 p.m.

An unknown suspect told employees he had a gun and threatened to shoot them if they didn’t give him cash. He left the restaurant with an unknown amount of cash and ran eastbound. No gun was actually seen and no one was injured. The incident was captured on security cameras.
