STEVENS SQUARE — Fresh off of a successful Kickstarter campaign, Art of This is bringing its One Nighter Series of art events to Stevens Square in September and October.
The former gallery, now a kind of free-ranging exhibition facilitator and imprint, raised $5,360 in online donations to bring the One Nighter Series back for a fourth season. The series features the work of emerging artists, and each exhibition opens and closes on the same night.
Leslie Kelman and Emily Gastineau kick off the series 8 p.m.–11 p.m. Sept. 3 with “The Naught Swap.” The art installation-slash-participatory performance was described on Art of This’ website as an investigation of “labor and intimacy in temporary environments.”
The description continues: “Participants will be invited into a fabricated system of exchange: reveal some truths, receive a token, and cash it in for an individualized, tactile performance experience. In layman’s terms, you fill out some surveys and one of us will wash your hair.
“That’s not an abstraction; we’re actually going to get wet.”
Art of This closed its artist-run exhibition space at 3506 Nicollet Ave. S. about one year ago. The gallery first opened in South Minneapolis in 2005.
A temporary art space at 4 E. Franklin Ave. will host the One Nighter Series through Oct. 31. For more information visit artofthis.net.
