Biz buzzes that couldn’t fit into our May 30 edition…
Closed: River Chocolate Company’s retail store
LINDEN HILLS — Just over two months after opening, River Chocolate Company’s retail store at 2822 West 43rd St. has closed.
According to Hennepin County Court records, River Chocolate co-owners Deirdre Davis and Allen Whitney were taken to court on April 4 by landlords Schwier & Saphir LLC for failure to pay rent, and were evicted May 5.
Calls to the company’s River Falls office weren’t returned, but a note on River Chocolate’s Facebook page attributed the closing to “poor health and out of control medical bills,” adding “we will get better and return.”
Despite the closing, River Chocolate Company’s treats will still be available at local farmers markets.
Closed: Sunnyside Up Café
WEDGE — It appears the Sunnyside Up Café, 2704 Lyndale Ave. S., is no longer open for business.
Regulars accustomed to enjoying breakfast and coffee at one of the Wedge’s signature restaurants reported that the café closed its doors sometime in mid-May.
A visit to the property revealed that a couple windows along the building’s façade had been broken and boarded up, but no further information about the restaurant’s closing was available as of press time.
Huge Improv Theater seeking liquor license
LYNDALE — On May 16, The City Council’s Regulatory, Energy and Environment Committee recommended approval of Huge Improv Theater’s, 3037 Lyndale Ave. S., request for a wine and strong beer license.
According to Executive Director Butch Roy, Huge won’t have a stand-alone bar, but wants patrons to be able “to enjoy a beer or wine with the show if they like.”
