Matt Clark, police commander for Minneapolis’s 5th Precinct, reported that police made five arrests late last month in connection with a string of armed robberies that took place throughout Southwest in January.
Police issued a crime alert after 12 armed robberies took place between Jan. 5 and Jan. 18.
Clark said he’s confident that the recent arrests are already having an impact. He reported that during the third week of January, there were three armed robberies in the 5th Precinct, while there were four during the same week in 2010. However, from the beginning of the year through the third week, there were a total of 21 armed robberies in the 5th Precinct in 2011, compared with nine during the same period last year.
