Police seek info following string of armed robberies

The Minneapolis Police Department Robbery/Assault Unit is seeking information about a suspect in a series of armed robberies that have occurred over the past four days.

Minneapolis Police believe the suspect was involved in recent armed robberies at Caribou Coffee at 4646 Nicollet Ave. S. and at another Caribou at 4745 Cedar Ave. S., Domino’s Pizza at 5957 Penn Ave. S., Bella Salon and Spa at 5015 Ewing Ave. S., Subway at 2400 Hennepin Ave. E., and an aggravated robbery of a person on the 3400 block of Dupont Ave. S. All of the above robberies took place between Jan. 15 and Jan. 18.

In a crime alert, the MPD describes the suspect as a black male, 20 to 30 years, 5 feet 3 inches to 5 feet 7 inches tall. He was wearing a black face mask, which covered half his face, black ski type jacket, possibly a hooded sweatshirt underneath and black pants. He was also wearing black gloves. He was armed with a silver semi-automatic handgun.

In addition to the above robberies, police records show that at least 6 armed robberies against people took place in Southwest Minneapolis between Jan. 5 and Jan. 10. No arrests were made in connection with any of the incidents. Police did not immediately return calls regarding whether the armed robberies against people earlier this month may be related to the recent string of robberies targeted mainly against businesses.

Police ask that anybody who can help identify the suspect or provide any information about these cases  contact Lieutenant Michael Fossum at 612-673-3645.
