LINDEN HILLS

Linden Hills hires new neighborhood coordinator

At its Jan. 4 meeting, the Linden Hills Neighborhood Council hired Molly McCartney as its new neighborhood coordinator.

Some of the primary duties involved in the part-time position include maintaining communication and outreach with the neighborhood, working on grant proposals, representing the neighborhood during interactions with city officials, and organizing neighborhood events.

McCartney has lived in Minneapolis for 17 years. She completed an undergraduate degree at the University of Minnesota and earned a master’s degree in urban and regional planning from the Humphrey Institute. Following graduate school, she worked as a city planner for the City of Minneapolis from 2004 to 2009, then took the last two years off to raise her three young children.

“We’re delighted. With her wealth of experience with the city navigating a lot of the complex issues around housing, her history of communicating with the city effectively, and her strengths in seeking out grant opportunities and grant writing, she’s got a lot of expertise that we’ll be able to plug into our work immediately,” said Lesley Lydell, Linden Hills board chair.

BRYN MAWR

Humphrey students to study light rail’s potential

Graduate students from the University of Minnesota’s Humphrey School of Public Affairs plan to study the potential impact of a proposed light rail transit (LRT) line on Bryn Mawr.

The semester-long project will look into the potential for development around the Bryn Mawr stations on the proposed Southwest LRT corridor. Research conducted by the three to four students will include interviews with Bryn Mawr residents.

The Humphrey Institute students are participating in the Capstone Workshop, a requirement for the Master of Urban and Regional Planning degree.

Construction of the 14-mile Southwest LRT line connecting Downtown Minneapolis and Eden Prairie is not expected to begin for several years. A draft environmental impact study on the project was expected to be released to the public soon.
