Police need information on 09 Lake Harriet boat arsonists

The Minneapolis Police Department is asking for information on three boys who allegedly damaged sailboats and set one ablaze on Lake Harriet last summer.

At 6 a.m. on Aug. 9, 2009, three boys were seen doing the damage and taking off on bicycles going southbound, according to police. They did over $20,000 worth of damage.

Earlier this year an anonymous tipster called the Edina Crime-Stopper line and identified the boys. Two live in the Linden Hills neighborhood and one in the Bryn Mawr neighborhood. All three declined police interviews and there is insufficient evidence to charge the suspects, according to a Police Department press release.

Police are asking that anyone with information on the incident call the Arson Hot Line at 1-800-723-2020 or Lt. McKenna at 612-673-3389. A reward of $2,500 is being offered for information leading to the arrest and conviction of those involved in the fire.
