Art grant input sought
The Fulton Neighborhood Association’s (FNA) Arts Committee is looking for ideas from neighborhood artists for future grant projects. Last year, FNA distributed nearly $7,500 in grants for Fulton Favorites lawn signs, a mural at Lake Harriet Community School’s upper campus and a musical called Peace Child. Neighborhood holding annual meeting, elections
The Lynnhurst Neighborhood Association (LYNAS) is having its annual meeting and board elections on Feb. 8. The meeting will start at 7 p.m. at the Lynnhurst Community Center, 1345 W. Minnehaha Parkway. There will be a discussion about how to spend Phase II Neighborhood Revitalization Program (NRP) funds. There will be beverages and refreshments, too. For more information about LYNAS, call 822-7466. If you need childcare to attend the meeting, call 370-4914.
‘Park Trail’ proposed
A representative from Lowry Hill asked the Kenwood Isles Area Association (KIAA) Board of Directors in January to join an effort to build a paved path along one edge of Kenwood Park.
The Kenwood Park Trail would run several blocks along the south side of the park to help pedestrians avoid a difficult Franklin Avenue crossing. The Lowry Hill Neighborhood Association (LHNA) already has earmarked $30,000 of its Neighborhood Revitalization Program funds for the project the project, LHNA Vice President Brian Hols said.
Hols said the total cost for the asphalt path was not certain, but estimated it would run to $40,000–$45,000. That cost would include some landscaping around the trail, he added.
An existing sidewalk runs along only about one-third of the park’s southern edge. Pedestrians then are directed to cross West Franklin Avenue at a point where the road curves and dips down a small hill.
The curve and small hill may make it difficult for motorists to see pedestrians. That concern is raised often by Kenwood and Lowry Hill residents, who also point out the crossing is on a route taken by many Kenwood Community School students.
Hols said LHNA planned to organize a public meeting with other neighborhood groups and representatives from the Minneapolis Park and Recreation Board later this winter.
Community art show registration open
Registration is open for the Kingfield Neighborhood Association’s (KFNA) fifth annual community art show, scheduled for March 20, from 7 p.m.–10 p.m. at Rau+Barber, 4244 Nicollet Ave. The theme this year is thinking out of the box. Registration forms and event details can be found at kingfield.org.
