Public high schools

The "Four Core"
A redesign begun in 2007 aims to transform Minneapolis public high schools by expanding advanced coursework options.
Those options come in the form of the “Four Core” programs: Advanced Placement (AP); International Baccalaureate (IB); Career Technical Education (CTE); and College in the Schools (CIS). Those programs replace a system of small learning communities currently being phased out by the district.
In Southwest (Zone 3), students generally choose between Washburn and Southwest high school, with priority placement in one school dependent on home address. Students in Bryn Mawr also may choose high schools in the North-Northeast area (Zone 1).
Some citywide options remain. Generally, though, out-of-zone busing is only available to students in ELL and special education programs.
