WHITTIER

Whittier wants Pillsbury Avenue house named historic

A home on Pillsbury Avenue that was the site of a controversial sale in June deserves historic designation, according to the Whittier Alliance Board of Directors.

The Board voted to support the historic designation of 2008 Pillsbury Ave. S. at its Sept. 24 meeting. Much of the home’s contents, including some fixtures, were sold in June to the alarm of local preservationists.

Streetcars win neighborhood support

The Whittier Alliance went on record in opposition to light-rail transit through the neighborhood, but it would welcome streetcars.

The Board of Directors voted to express support for a Minneapolis study to return streetcar to city streets. Nicollet Avenue is one potential trolley line.
