Linden Hills Co-op management announced Thursday in a letter to members that they entered an agreement to move the grocery store from 43rd Street and Upton Avenue to 44th Street and France Avenue.
The move will be formally announced at a membership meeting tonight.
The new, 50-percent larger store would be located in the former Almsted’s Sunnyside Market space, which was previously slated to become a CVS Pharmacy. If things go as planned, the co-op should open in the space by early fall, 2010.
To fund the project, the co-op is launching a member loan campaign with a goal of raising $1.5 million by the end of January.
The co-op has explored the option of moving for more than four years and determined it was “the best choice for the long-term financial health and stability of our cooperative,” the letter said.
Linden Hills co-op got its start in 1976 and today has more than 5,000 members.
